PRC Sindh Organized 3 Day ‘Volunteering in Emergencies’ Training
Pakistan Red Crescent Sindh organized a three-day training workshop titled ‘Volunteering in Emergencies’ that focused on capacity building and to promote the spirit of volunteerism among the youth. The closing ceremony was held at PRC provincial headquarters on Thursday.
The three-day event comprised different sessions including Youth as an agent of Behavioral change (YABC), First Aid, Communication, climate change adaptation and disaster management in emergencies. The First Aid trainer demonstrated different first aid techniques to the audience on day one. The participants were introduced about the concept of YABC, focusing on its behavioral skills including empathy, social inclusion, critical thinking and having an unbiased approach. Moreover, a session on Media and Communication in Emergencies focused on the essential techniques for effective communication with media and beneficiaries during emergencies. This was followed by a session on Climate Change adaptation where the pros and cons of CCA were discussed.
The final day of the workshop introduced the volunteers to the Restoring Family Links program of PRC which focuses on uniting families during disasters/ emergencies. It was followed by training session on disaster management. About 30 volunteers including both males and females, aged 20 – 35, participated in the training. Addressing the closing ceremony, PRC Sindh Provincial Secretary Kanwar Waseem briefed the audience about the importance of volunteerism. The session concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participating volunteers.
